Project: Installation of MVHR Units and Radial Ductwork for a Residential Development
Location: 26 Brownlow Road N11 2DE
Project Overview
SL Services was tasked with the installation of radial ductwork, plenums, air valves, and Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) units to support the hot water demand and ventilation for a new residential development. The project included 24 two-bedroom flats and 3 three-bedroom townhouses.
Project Scope
-Ventilation and Heating Solutions: The Compact P units were selected for this project due to their capability to meet both airside and hot water demand efficiently. For the townhouses, which required additional capacity, external air and ground source heat pump units were installed to meet the demand due to their larger size and the specific layout of the drawings provided by the architect.
Underfloor Heating: Underfloor heating was installed in each flat, which worked seamlessly with the Compact P units due to the integrated EK unit and heat pump. The underfloor heating installation was outsourced to Terra Therma, a trusted partner, while the internal plumbing team connected the underfloor heating and water demands.
Key Contributions
-Ductwork and Airflow Optimisation :
The project involved the installation of 220×90 plastic ducting to the atmosphere and a combination of flexible duct and iso pipe from the manifolds in each room to the plant rooms. Specific attention was paid to ensuring equal resistance in airflow for each room by advising on plenum sizes and incorporating necessary bends within the ductwork to meet Part F requirements.
Collaboration and Coordination:
– Worked closely with key stakeholders, including Ted and Jason, throughout the first fix, adhering strictly to the provided drawings.
– Maintained ongoing communication with Liam to ensure SL Services was prioritized during the first fix sections. This approach ensured that SL Services could carry out the large amount of ductwork required without causing delays to the overall build.
– Coordinated with on-site plumbers and electricians, providing them with ample notice and clear instructions to prepare for unit link-ups and commissioning, avoiding any backlog of workload.
Outcome:
The project was successfully completed on September 22nd. Lee from SL Services managed to complete all required works, including commissioning sheets and handover, within the agreed-upon timeframe. The meticulous planning and coordination helped ensure that the flats were ready for sale before the completion of the building, meeting the client’s stringent deadlines.
Conclusion:
SL Services’ expertise in MVHR unit installation, ductwork, and project coordination was instrumental in the successful and timely completion of this residential development. By choosing energy-efficient solutions like the Compact P units and ensuring seamless integration with underfloor heating systems, SL Services helped create a comfortable and compliant living environment for future residents.
